India saw growth in factory activity slow to 3.2 percent in December 2024, according to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
"The IIP growth rate for December 2024 is 3.2 percent, which was 5.2 percent (quick estimate) in November 2024," the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) reported Wednesday.
"The growth rates of the three sectors -- mining, manufacturing, and electricity -- for December 2024 are 2.6 percent, 3.0 percent, and 6.2 percent, respectively," the ministry said.
According to the government data, the IIP currently stands at a quick estimate of 157.2. That's up from 152.3 in December 2023.
"The indices of industrial production for the mining, manufacturing, and electricity sectors for December 2024 stand at 143.1, 156.2, and 192.8, respectively," the ministry said.
The data show that, within the manufacturing sector, the top three positive contributors for December 2024 are the manufacturing of basic metals (6.7 percent), electrical equipment (40.1 percent), and coke and refined petroleum products (3.9 percent).
