France - February 14, 2025 A stunning sporadic fireball meteor, identified as SPMN110225F, was witnessed across southwestern Europe on February 11, 2025, at 20:09 UTC (21:09 CET). The meteor, which reached a speed of 68,000 km/h, was first detected over the coast near Perpignan, France. It streaked through the sky, visible over Narbonne, before its luminous phase ended 62 km northwest. The event was captured by several observers, including cameras at the Pujalt Observatory in Catalunya and from Girona’s Breda area. Astrophysicists noted the meteor’s apparent slow speed, which was likely due to the pulsations of its rotation as it entered and burned through the atmosphere at a height of 85 km. Observers in Barcelona also noted a particularly captivating visual effect as the meteor appeared to slow down while completing its atmospheric ablation.
