This is the chaotic moment fans invaded a football pitch sparking a mass brawl in Indonesia.

Footage shows the referee fleeing the field as frenzied sports spilled onto the grass to attack the officials and players after a match in the Pasuruan Regency, on February 13.

Spectators were seen hurling mineral bottles and plastic chairs from the stands as the two teams scrambled for the safety of the dressing room.

Local media reported that the conflict erupted when the home team Persekabpas was defeated by visitors Tornado FC, with a final score of 1-2.

Furious fans then converged on the pitch to attack the referee, Dwi Purba Adi Wicaksana, who was accused of time wasting at the end of the match to help the away team.

Regional police said some 570 officers were dispatched to control the rampaging fans.

Adjunct Police Commissioner Jazuli Dani Irawan, Pasuruan police chief, said: 'With a force of 570 personnel, we were able to immediately handle the clashes between players and supporters as quickly as possible.'

Gaung Andika Ranggi, manager for the Persekabpas team, added: 'Regarding the chaos that occurred, we are waiting for the sanctions after the disciplinary committee hearing.'
