Snow blower negotiates blizzards in New York
A snow blower navigated through blizzards in New York.
The New York State Department of Transportation crews battled winter's grip overnight, using powerful fresh powder-clearing equipment on February 19.
They cleared towering snowbanks on the I-81 northbound off-ramp, making room for the next blast of winter weather as another round of lake-effect snow approached.
Officials have warned that the winter season is not over, advising drivers to stay safe and avoid crowding the ploughs while road crews work to keep highways clear.
Lake-effect snow occurs when cold, dry air passes over a relatively warmer body of water, such as a large lake. As the air moves over the water, it picks up moisture and heat, causing it to rise and form clouds that produce heavy snowfall.
