This is the dramatic moment three crew members were rescued after their boat capsized off the coast of Indonesia.

The vessel sank in waters off Kuala Duri, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi, at around 1 am local time on Thursday.

Officials said the cargo ship was struck by choppy seas while sailing from the Lingga Islands to Kuala Pangkalan Duri.

Head of the Jambi SAR Office, Adah Sudarsa, said: 'At 1 am, a cargo ship on the Kep Lingga–Kuala Pangkalan Duri route was hit by waves in the waters around Pangkalan Duri.

'At the time of the incident, the waves were estimated to be 7 to 8ft high.'

A joint rescue operation involving the Tungkal SAR Alert Unit, Polariud, the Indonesian Navy, and the Indonesian Red Cross was immediately dispatched to the scene.

When rescuers arrived, all three crew members were found floating on the sinking vessel, still wearing life jackets and clinging to it.

The trio was safely evacuated and taken to the hospital for further medical checks.

Authorities reminded fishermen and maritime crews to closely monitor local weather conditions, ensure safety equipment is worn at all times, and avoid sailing during rough seas.
