This is the bizarre moment airport security found cocaine hidden in a passenger's toupee.

The suspected smuggler was trying to fly to Amsterdam when he was pulled aside at the Rafael Nunez Airport in Cartagena, Colombia, on Thursday, February 20.

Footage shows battle-hardened Colombian customs officers using scissors to remove the wig that was glued to the man's shaved head, revealing packets of cocaine hidden underneath.

The drug-filled capsules turned blue when tested, confirming the presence of cocaine.

The clip then shows the officers displaying the suspect, who has not been named but is reportedly about 40 years old, in front of the drug haul. They said the narcotics were worth 400 doses, with a sign on the table reading 'cocaina'.

Reports indicate the drug shipment was worth EUR 10,000 (GBP 8,296) in the local Colombian market - the former domain of Pablo Escobar - but they could sell for higher in bustling Amsterdam.

Police are investigating whether the suspect, with a history of drug trafficking, is connected to a larger criminal organisation.

Colombia is the world’s largest producer of cocaine, responsible for more than 60 per cent of global supply. Drug trafficking is controlled by criminal groups, often with assistance from corrupt police and government workers.
