Recently, in a village in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou, a man and his companion were seen skilfully gliding down an icy road using bamboo slats as makeshift skates.

Video footage shows the duo effortlessly manoeuvring across the frozen surface with just two simple bamboo pieces under their feet, moving with remarkable agility—almost like martial arts heroes from classic wuxia novels.

Mr Pan, one of the men in the video, explained that their "skates" are nothing more than regular bamboo slats that have been slightly modified. He also emphasised that the road is closed to vehicles during icy conditions, making it a safe space for their activity. Having grown up in the area, both he and his companion are highly familiar with the terrain and the technique, and he does not recommend others attempt to imitate their skating.
