Rising prices cast shadow over Ramadan in Gaza
Storyline: As Ramadan returns to the Gaza Strip, the joy of the holy month is tempered by the significant increase in prices and shortages of goods. For the second year in a row, the people of Gaza are welcoming Ramadan under challenging conditions, including shortages of basic necessities and the collapse of infrastructure, caused by the extensive destruction from Israel's bombardment. Despite these hardships, the spirit of the holy month persists, and residents of the Gaza Strip hope that the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel will hold, allowing them to live in safety, although there are fears of renewed fighting. Markets in Gaza are experiencing unprecedented stagnation, unlike the atmosphere before the war that caused deaths and displacement, making the purchase of simple Ramadan necessities a luxury only a few can afford. From under the rubble, Saeed Al-Bitar, a lantern shop owner, retrieved some lanterns from his destroyed store to sell, hoping to bring joy to the children of Gaza. Israel and Hamas signed a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the exchange of hostages in three stages. However, there are fears that the agreement might collapse, leading to the return of war due to the difficulty of negotiations and disagreements between the two sides regarding the implementation of all terms. Of course, Ramadan this season is noticeably different from that in previous years. Ramadan this season is full of sorrow, pain, and wounds. There is a martyr in every house. There is a wounded in every house there, and every house is not devoid of pain and sadness, different from previous years." [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] 4.
