The closing ceremony and award presentation of the "Huawei Senegal ICT Competition 2024-2025" took place on Friday in Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
The event aims to build future-oriented competitiveness, promote the development of Senegal's ICT (information and communications technology) industry, continuously cultivate high-quality talent, enhance technical certification in the ICT sector, and foster an open, shared, and mutually beneficial talent ecosystem.
Since its inception in 2019, the competition has been successfully held five times in Senegal, becoming one of the most influential ICT talent development initiatives in the country.
This year's competition began in November 2024, attracting approximately 1,000 students from over 10 higher education institutions across Senegal. Ultimately, 40 students emerged as national winners, earning the opportunity to represent Senegal in the upcoming regional and global competitions.
SOUNDBITE 1 (French): LI YAN, Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Senegal
"I am pleased to see that in recent years, China and Senegal have engaged in close and fruitful cooperation in the digital economy sector. I hope the Huawei ICT competition continues to discover and nurture more young Senegalese talents, fosters China-Senegal cooperation in high-tech and talent development, and strengthens China-Senegal and China-Africa friendship."
On Feb. 24, the Senegalese government launched a new national digital transformation strategy, aiming to position digital innovation as a source of sustainable growth and a driver of efficient governance for citizens and businesses.
SOUNDBITE 2 (French): ABBAS FALL, Minister of Labor, Employment, and Institutional Relations of Senegal
"This ambitious digital transformation strategy is built on four key pillars. That is why this event is of great significance to us, as it encourages our youth to push the boundaries of innovation and envision solutions for the future."
