This is the terrifying moment a nine-month-old baby nearly chokes on a toy egg.

Security camera inside the family home shows the infant inside a playpen with their mother in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, on Sunday, February 23.

The woman appeared to be talking with her husband as the baby plays with a plastic egg on the floor. Next to the tot is an entire carton of plastic eggs.

Suddenly, the baby places one of the eggs in its mouth and is unable to remove it.

The baby starts to cry, prompting the mum to realise what is happening and attempt to help.

After a struggle, she successfully removes the plastic toy from her baby's mouth with her husband's help.

The mother said she wanted to raise awareness and advised parents to buy larger playthings to prevent similar incidents.
