A tropical hailstorm battered locals in Myanmar.

Residents experienced marble-sized hailstones along with continuous rainfall in Nansang Township, Shan State, on the afternoon of February 25.

Footage shows dozens of white, circular pieces of ice on the muddy ground amid heavy downpours.

Some of the hailstones can be seen on a chair outside, on the table, and filling up cauldrons placed on top of the furniture.

The filmer said: 'We were outside when it rained, and when I felt it on my body, it was painful, so I looked at the ground only to find out that those were circular pieces of ice. We then immediately went inside the house.'

Hailstones form when raindrops are carried by thunderstorm updrafts into freezing areas of the atmosphere. As they rise, they freeze and grow by colliding with other raindrops that freeze onto them. This can also occur during spring and summer thunderstorms.
