A bus collided with a cement lorry, killing at least three passengers and injuring 20 others in India.

The tragic accident occurred near Chodimella village in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday around 5 am, on March 6.

Local media reported that the bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Kakinada when it lost control due to overspeeding and crashed into a stationary truck before overturning.

Footage shows the heavily damaged vehicle being cleared by heavy equipment on the road.

The injured individuals were taken to Eluru Hospital, including the bus driver, who is in critical condition.

Eluru Rural Police said: 'Three people killed and 20 injured after a private bus collided with a lorry near Chodimellu village in Eluru. The bus was en route to Kakinada from Hyderabad.'

The identities of the deceased passengers have yet to be confirmed.

Authorities have launched an investigation.

India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.

The poor track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
