UAE: Yiwu market's first overseas branch in Dubai spurs trade growth
Storyline: Business is booming at the first overseas branch of China's Yiwu Market in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the offshoot of the world’s leading small commodities market enabling traders to tap into a vibrant and diverse customer base. Situated in the Jebel Ali Free Zone of Dubai, the Yiwu market is a joint venture between the global supply chain solution provider DP World and Zhejiang China Commodities City Group, with an investment of 1.06 billion yuan (about 146 million U.S. dollars). The market spans over an area of 200,000 square meters, housing 324 warehouses and over 1,500 showrooms that are divided into different sections, including hardware and tools, kitchen and bath, as well as bedding. Omran, a Turkish merchant, operates a coffee machine store in the market, selling products to the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. The history of the coffee grinder dates back to the 15th century in Arabia. Today, global annual production of coffee machines nears 100 million units, with 80 percent of them manufactured in China. The coffee machines in Omran’s shop are the result of collaborations with hundreds of Chinese factories. It takes just three to four months for a Chinese factory to design, produce, and bring a coffee machine to market, a speed that has left Omran amazed. After years of experience, "Made in China" has come to be synonymous with "high quality." Ahmed is a regular visitor to the Yiwu Market in Dubai. As a local supplier, he frequently visits to check out new products whenever he has the time. Last year, Yiwu launched a new initiative under the brand "Yiwu Selection," creating a collection store aimed at expanding into overseas markets. This platform brings together domestic businesses eager to explore global markets, amplifying their international presence. He added that this new model not only reduces marketing costs for brands but also provides them with extensive professional support. Shotlist: Dubai, UAE - Recent: 1.
