He was taken into custody after his lawyer stated that his green card had been revoked by the Trump administration.

Khalil, a legal U.S. resident, was detained by federal agents as part of a broader crackdown under President Trump, which targeted pro-Palestinian activism on college campuses.

While his arrest has sparked outrage, his deportation has been blocked by judicial intervention, highlighting tensions between national security concerns and the protection of free speech rights.

Congressional leaders have voiced their support for Khalil, calling for the protection of constitutional rights amid growing concerns over security measures that disproportionately target activists.

Israel broke its ceasefire with Gaza, which had been in place since January, launching surprise airstrikes early Tuesday.

Reports say 404 people have been killed, with more than 560 injured.

Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a terror attack by the governing party Hamas on a Jewish music festival on October 7 last year.
