Gaza Strip: Death toll surpasses 700 in Gaza following latest Israeli attacks
[WARNING: sensitive content/images of blood] At least 710 Palestinians have been killed and 900 others injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since Tuesday, according to Khalil al-Daqran, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the enclave, on Thursday. About 70 percent of the wounded were children and women, with the majority suffering from severe injuries, said the spokesman. He also added that many injured ones died due to a critical lack of essential medical equipment and medicines, which prevented them from receiving timely medical treatment, he added. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported Thursday that the Israeli airstrikes targeted several areas across Gaza on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, including Bani Suhaila, Abasan al-Kabira, and al-Fakhari east of Khan Younis, as well as Rafah in the south, and Gaza City and Beit Lahia in the north. Israel also carried out military operations in places of the West Bank on Wednesday, including Jenin, the WAFA reported. Also, on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza said that many civilians still remained trapped under the rubble. Due to a lack of heavy equipment, the spokesperson added, rescuers were unable to free those trapped civilians. In addition, the Civil Defense official said the continued closure of Gaza's border crossings has led to severe shortages of basic goods in local markets, leaving Gaza on the verge of famine. On Jan 19 this year, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. As part of the first phase of the agreement, the Israeli military allowed residents of the Gaza Strip to cross the Netzarim Corridor at the end of January to return to their homes in northern Gaza.
