Light rain fell on the Black Cove Complex fire in North Carolina.

A wet front moved over the flames, bringing a smattering of warer early on Monday morning, March 24.

The North Carolina Forest Service said: 'Despite this, fire behaviour remains active, and firefighters continue engaging the fire in an attempt to keep it from spreading, and threatening homes and structures.'

Dramatic footage shows a firefighting helicopter dropping water over the mountains amid drizzle.

Bulldozers and firefighters on the ground worked to build fuel breaks to slow the fire's advance.

Authorities said they were 'preparing and supporting structure protection near the fire' in case the flames moved closer to them.

The Black Cove Fire was initially reported on Wednesday, March 19. Investigations revealed that a downed power line caused the incident.
