Dramatic footage from a high-rise gym in Bangkok’s Bang Phli district shows water surging violently in a rooftop swimming pool following powerful tremors from a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar.

The quake, which struck on March 28, 2025, had its epicenter just 17 kilometers from Mandalay, causing significant damage in Bangkok, including the collapse of the Nuw Mega building that claimed eight lives.

The filmer, @kudoumayan, initially mistook the shaking for dizziness before realizing the intensity of the quake, estimated at 6.7 on the Japanese shindo scale.

Experts suggest that Thailand’s less stringent building codes, compared to Japan’s post-1981 standards, may have contributed to the structural damage witnessed.
