UK: Thief Caught With 65 Boxes of Stolen Easter Treats
Peterborough, United Kingdom - March 22, 2025 A man who stole £220.50 worth of Cadbury Crème Eggs from a fuel station has been banned from Cambridgeshire for three months. Deon De Groot, 26, entered Tesco Express in Welland Road, Dogsthorpe, at about 11.40am on Saturday (22 March). He was seen packing the chocolate eggs into a duffle bag and leaving without paying. A staff member alerted officers in a passing police car. They followed De Groot and found stolen goods hidden in his jacket. The duffle bag, dropped nearby, was also full of Crème Egg boxes. De Groot, of no fixed address, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He admitted to shop theft and received a 12-week suspended prison sentence for a year. He is also barred from Cambridgeshire for three months. PC Guy Cunningham, who arrested him, said: “Thanks to the quick reaction by staff who flagged us down, we were able to catch De Groot red-handed and return the stolen items to the store.”
