A double-decker bus roof was shaved clean off after a tunnel accident.

The incident occurred in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, on March 11.

Footage shows the bus jammed into the tunnel, with its roof lying on the tarmac behind it after being ripped off as the coach entered.

The Zhengzhou Public Transport Group confirmed that bus number 14417 on Line B12 mistakenly entered the underpass of Zhongyuan Road near Fushou Street.

The coach's second floor collided with the culvert's ceiling, causing significant damage to the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, except for a passenger on the first floor, who was frightened and sent to the hospital for observation. They were later medically cleared and returned home.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver missed a ramp and failed to turn onto the main road under the bridge in time, mistakenly entering the auxiliary road of the underpass.

Authorities said he did not notice that the auxiliary road's internal height limit was lower than the vehicle's height, leading to the accident.

The driver has been suspended and is cooperating fully with the traffic police in their investigation.
