Quarry wall collapses killing worker in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment a quarry wall collapsed, killing a worker in Indonesia.
The 328ft cliff (100m) crumpled in a C-grade mining area in Mranggen District, Semarang City, Central Java, on Friday, April 18.
Dramatic footage shows the rock face crumbling and hitting several trucks and heavy equipment operating nearby.
Assistant Police Commissioner Margono, the head of the Mranggen Police Sector, confirmed that a worker, identified as a truck driver, died during the horrific incident.
Officers from the Semarang Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Central Java Police Criminal Investigation Directorate are still investigating the cause of the landslide.
Authorities will also examine several parties, including the company that manages the mine.
C-grade mining refers to operations that involve materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, soil, and marble.
Indonesia is also the world's largest nickel producer. The government's aggressive push to exploit the country's natural resources has sparked a booming mining industry.
However, safety levels have not kept pace with the development.
