Mudslides surge through roads as rain kills five in Kashmir
Mudslides surged through roads as heavy rain killed at least five in Kashmir.
The freak weather struck Ramban and Reasi districts in Jammu and Kashmir on April 20, triggering flash floods and leaving more than 100 people stranded in the region. Officials later confirmed all were rescued.
Three individuals were killed in Ramban due to a landslide, while two others reportedly died after being struck by lightning in Reasi.
Authorities reported that nearly 40 homes were damaged, and several vehicles were swept away by the sudden surge of water. The landslide disrupted traffic along the 250-kilometre Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Air travel to Srinagar has also been impacted.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences following the tragic event.
He said: 'Extremely anguished by the tragic landslide and flash flood in Ramban, which have caused considerable damage to life and property. We are in touch with the local administration to ensure immediate rescue efforts wherever needed. Later today, I will be reviewing restoration, relief, and repair plans.
'For now, the focus remains on managing the situation on the ground. Citizens are advised to follow travel advisories and avoid non-essential movement in vulnerable areas.'
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for Jammu and Kashmir from April 18 to 20, predicting severe conditions due to an active western disturbance.
The forecast included heavy rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds, prompting authorities to implement precautionary measures to protect the public.
