A landslide ravaged a stretch of road as heavy rain caused severe floods in southern Thailand near the border with Malaysia.

Footage shows the aftermath of the highway collapse in the Bannang Sata district of Yala province, one of the worst-hit regions of the deluge that has killed more than 30 residents and left hundreds of thousands displaced.

The country’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said more than 300,000 households were affected over the past week and 40,000 residents were still in emergency shelters on Monday, December 2. There have been at least 25 deaths in Thailand and six in Malaysia.

Meteorologists are warning of more rain in the coming days, raising further fears of severe floods. Authorities prepared shelter, water pumps, evacuation trucks and boats, and put rescue workers on standby to prepare for more downpours.

In Malaysia, five days of ferocious rainfall last hammered its eastern coast, killing six people and wrecking homes and roads in the northeastern state of Kelantan and neighbouring Terengganu.

Ministers have advised their citizens against travelling to Thailand.
