Barcelona, Spain - April 22, 2025 The National Police faced a surreal situation at El Prat Airport. With the celebration of Sant Jordi and an extended Easter holiday, Barcelona Airport saw a significant increase in passenger traffic. Traffickers tried to use the crowds to smuggle illegal substances but ended up arrested. Shortly after 10 a.m., the National Police announced the arrest of two individuals at Josep Tarradellas Airport. Officers found over 11 kilos of cocaine hidden in the batteries of a wheelchair. The batteries are subject to specific security checks, which led to the discovery. Police found a total of 14 ‘pills’ of cocaine in the mobility device. The two individuals were immediately arrested and will face judicial proceedings in the coming days. Although Barcelona Airport is one of the busiest in the world, authorities prioritize security. This latest arrest marks another success against drug trafficking.
