A Pakistani man was arrested for allegedly stealing a dead baby's identity to stay illegally in Thailand.

Zeshan, 41, reported assumed the identity of a newborn named Supoj, who died shortly after birth in a remote district in Bangkok in 2014.

However, the baby's death was never officially registered, allowing him to reportedly exploit the lack of records and obtain a Thai ID card and passport under the deceased child's name.

The Pakistani reportedly lived as a Thai citizen for more than 10 years, enjoying the benefits reserved for the natives before his ruse was revealed.

Authorities learned of his fake identity while investigating his frequent travels. He reportedly used his Thai passport to fly in and out of the country more than 100 times.

They stormed Zeshan's home in Bangkok and detained him today, April 24.

Police Major General Wittaya Sriprasert, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, said: ‘After we arrested the suspect, we will investigate further to bring his collaborators in these violations to justice. During to the brief interrogation, the suspect denied all charges.'

The officer added that the illegal will be charged with 'using an ID without having Thai nationality, being listed in a house certificate or other civil registration without holding Thai nationality, providing false information to a government official, forging and using documents, and forging and using a fake passport'.

Officers were expanding the investigation to find potential accomplices.
