A body has been discovered in the water near the HB&T Rails to Trails Bascule Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Houston. Police say someone spotted the body from Runnels Street and called it in.

This area, located under the shadow of the I-69 and I-10 overpasses, is known for a large homeless encampment and has become a hotspot for muggings and thefts targeting those using the nearby trails.

At this time, the identity and gender of the deceased remain unknown. HPD and HFD remain on scene investigating.
