THE HAUGE, NETHERLANDS - APRIL 30, 2025: Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the Peace Palace in The Hague on Wednesday, April 30, as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) continued public hearings on Israel’s legal obligations under international law. Waving Palestinian flags and holding signs with messages such as “It’s not a conflict, it’s an occupation,” “It’s not a war, it’s a genocide,” “It’s not terrorism, it’s the right to resist,” and “Stop genocide, stop Dutch complicity,” protesters called for immediate justice and solidarity with Palestinians. Chants of “Justice now” and “Free Palestine” echoed through the crowd. The ICJ on Monday began a week-long hearing on Israel’s humanitarian obligations toward Palestinians, following nearly two months of a total blockade halting aid to Gaza. Gaza’s 2.4 million residents rely almost entirely on humanitarian aid, which has been cut off since Israel closed the Kerem Shalom, Zikim, and Erez crossings on March 2. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. More than 52,300 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in ongoing Israeli genocide since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
