A hero fireman risked his life climbing a burning building to smash a window and create an opening for water hose.

The volunteer scaled a ladder to access the facade of the second floor and shattered the glass to let the equipment through in Manila, the Philippines.

Dramatic footage shows the brave officer walking on the hot balcony. He broke a pane and wildfire erupted before he rushed to flee on May 1.

While conditions became even more dangerous, he continued with the job and doused the blaze, successfully putting it out.

Colleague Michael Ong, who recorded the incident, said: 'The recent fire happened at a commercial building in Banawe Street. The firemen put his life at risk to stop the flames.'

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
