The decision comes amid Israel’s ongoing "Iron Wall" military operation, launched on Jan. 21 in the northern West Bank, which has displaced hundreds of Palestinians. Many attempted to return to salvage belongings after the demolition order but were met with live fire and stun grenades from Israeli forces, witnesses told Anadolu (AA). Ibrahim Nemr, a displaced resident of Nur Shams Refugee Camp, accused Israel of "systematically expelling Palestinians to render them homeless." "Each targeted building holds 3-4 families, meaning 300 households in Tulkarm and Nur Shams will lose their homes," Nemr said. "Israel is deliberately emptying northern West Bank camps to erase our right of return." Nemr claimed the demolitions mirror Israel’s displacement tactics in Gaza, urging collective resistance: "These camps are our temporary refuge until we reclaim the lands stolen from us in 1948." Muaz Amarine, detained for five hours by Israeli troops while trying to reach his family’s home in Nur Shams, said soldiers barred Palestinians from retrieving possessions. "Some families entered without coordination but were expelled. The camp is destroyed—nothing remains," Amarine told AA. His grandfather’s home was razed in an earlier phase of demolitions; his father’s house is now slated for destruction. "Even a few minutes here today felt like paradise. We miss our home," he said. Israel escalated military operations in the West Bank after a Gaza ceasefire took effect on Jan. 19. The offensive, initially targeting Jenin and its refugee camp, expanded to Tulkarm and Nur Shams on Jan. 27. Official figures report 396 homes fully demolished and 2,573 partially damaged across both camps, with access roads sealed by earthen barricades. Over 4,200 families—more than 25,000 people—have been displaced, per Tulkarm Governorate data. Writing by Sibel Uygun
