A disabled motorcycle rider modified his vehicle to control it while sitting in the sidecar.

Kongdet Kaewlet, 59, baffled onlookers as he cruised along a road next to a driverless motorbike in Ang Thong province, central Thailand, on May 2.

Footage shows the villager in a white hard hat riding in a sidecar painted bright yellow and orange. The carriage was attached to a two-wheeler that appeared to steer itself.

Kongdet said he had relocated the handlebars and controls to the sidecar, allowing him to drive despite his disability.

He said: 'I'm paralysed from the waist down after a work accident ten years ago in which I fell from a height and broke my spine and ribs. I now sell lottery tickets and make flower bouquets for a living.

'This motorcycle sidecar was given to me by the Social Security Office. I modified it because I cannot drive it with my disability. I had the handlebars moved to the sidecar and also modified the engine and motorcycle gear to make them more convenient to use.

'People are often shocked when they see me on the road. They are interested and ask about the vehicle because it looks like there is no driver.'
