London, United Kingdom - April 28, 2025 Two Metropolitan Police horses were attacked by a dog while on patrol in Shepherd’s Bush Green, W12. The incident happened on Monday, April 28, at 11:30 a.m. Police Horse Yvonne and Police Horse Snaffles were being ridden by Sergeant Leon Astley and PC Grace Miller-McCormack. A dog began chasing the horses and tried several times to bite their legs. The dog’s owner struggled to regain control. Members of the public had to step in to help. Both horses suffered minor injuries but are recovering well at their stables. The officers were not harmed. Sergeant Astley said it was supposed to be a routine patrol but became unexpectedly eventful. He urged dog owners to keep pets under control to prevent similar incidents. Police are appealing for witnesses and have asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting CAD2691/28APR25. The dog was seized but later returned to its owner. No arrests have been made. Owning a dangerously out-of-control dog can lead to serious consequences, including large fines or prison time. Police recommend keeping dogs on a lead if they do not respond well to commands. Yvonne is a 13-year-old police horse known for her large ears. She has served since October 2020. Snaffles, age 15, has performed in the Mounted Branch's Olympia show and has helped with public order policing in central London.
