Four tourist boats capsize in China due to strong winds leaving 9 dead

At around 4:40 p.m. on May 4, a sudden strong wind caused a boating accident in the Liuguang River area of the Wujiang Baili Gallery Scenic Spot, Xinren Township, Qianxi City, Bijie, Guizhou Province.

According to the latest verified information, the incident resulted in the capsizing of four boats and 84 people falling into the water. A total of 83 individuals have been rescued or located—nine were confirmed dead after unsuccessful medical treatment, 70 are currently receiving medical care (none in life-threatening condition), and four were unharmed. One person remains missing.

Authorities confirmed that the boats involved were operated by Donghu Agricultural Passenger Transport Co., Ltd. of Xindian Town, Qingzhen City, Guiyang. Both boats were licensed to carry 40 people and were not overloaded.
