We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control. Thank you.” NEW DELHI, INDIA (MAY 10, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “INDIAN MINISTRY OF EXTERIOR AFFAIRS” HANDOUT — EDITORIAL USE ONLY) - India on Saturday, May 10, accused Pakistan of violating a freshly agreed ceasefire between the two countries, leading to renewed cross-border clashes despite earlier diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions. The ceasefire, brokered earlier in the day following discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, aimed to halt weeks of deadly exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. However, hours after the agreement, both sides reported fresh violations, with explosions and gunfire heard in border areas. At a special briefing, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan had "repeatedly" violated the truce. “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the agreement,” Misri said. He added that Indian forces were responding to the violations and warned Pakistan to act responsibly. “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations. Our armed forces have been instructed to deal strongly with any further breaches,” he said. Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that both countries had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after days of intense clashes that raised fears of a wider conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Indian officials had initially confirmed the truce. However, reports of renewed shelling and gunfire emerged later in the evening, casting doubt over the sustainability of the agreement. India and Pakistan have fought four wars since 1947, three of them over the disputed Kashmir region. Writing by Sibel Uygun
