China: Unmanned techs boost growth of China's logistics sector
[Voiceover] China's logistics sector is thriving thanks to innovative machinery, automated sorting systems, and unmanned vehicles that are helping grow the industry. At this sorting center in east China's Jiangsu Province, an automated system sorts parcels from across the country with unmanned forklifts and a network of yellow trays that zip along a track, depositing items into bins. According to data from the State Post Bureau, 90 percent of the country's large-scale logistics and express delivery centers are automated. Playing a large role in that automation are unmanned vehicles like these being assembled at a workshop in central China's Henan Province. The factory's production director says their vehicles are going be used for deliveries in places like Beijing and Shanghai. [Soundbite] Zuo Zan, production director, workshop: "We've received orders for more than 20,000 vehicles since the beginning of this year, a tenfold increase compared to last year. They will be primarily operating in over 100 cities including Beijing and Shanghai, with 90 percent used in the express delivery sector." [Voiceover] Official data shows that the value of China's logistics industry maintained steady growth last year, expanding by 5.8 percent year on year to about 50 trillion U.S. dollars.
