Liverpool fans in Thailand celebrate team's Premier League victory
A devoted Liverpool FC fan in Thailand celebrated the team's Premier League victory by decorating his farm with the football club's logos.
Chaleo Manthong, 52, planted cosmos flowers in the shape of the mythical Liverbird emblem in Phetchabun. The flowers are set to bloom in a colourful spectacle on May 25 as a tribute to the controversial team's historic 20th English top-flight title.
Chaleo, a Reds fan for more than 30 years, said he had made a similar tribute when the club won in the 2019-20 Premier League.
He said: 'After the last title win, many people started visiting my farm, so I put up a restaurant and a lodging, all of which were decorated with Liverpool paraphernalia. The rooms had pictures and flags of Liverpool.
'I also created rice field artworks of Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard passing the armband to Jordan Henderson, and the Premier League trophy.
'I had to stop operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, but I renovated the property further so I could welcome more tourists when the situation improved.
'This year, I was confident that Liverpool would win, so I planted the flowers in the shape of the Reds logo again. Last time I used black sticky rice plants, but this time I used cosmos flowers, which will bloom around the 25th of this month.'
He also thanked his neighbour Chamroen Sawatwongchai, who helped decorate the football-themed property.
The football enthusiast said he will hold a celebration on May 25, where sports analysts were invited to discuss the club's performance this season.
The party coincides with a planned parade called 'Red Day' in Bangkok. Organisers said former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise will attend the event, which will be free and open to the public.
Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5–1 at their home ground, Anfield, securing their second Premier League title on April 27.
The Reds have now tied with Manchester United to become the only clubs to win 20 top-flight titles.
