Airport staff perform CPR to save life of colleague who collapsed
A heroic airport worker performed CPR to save the life of a colleague who collapsed at the security scanner.
The employee lost consciousness at the screening point at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Odisha, prompting his co-worker to alert other staff immediately.
Reports said the man was part of the In-Line Hold Baggage Screening (ILHBS) team on duty. A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) member quickly administered CPR.
Footage shows emergency responders surrounding the fallen worker, while other staff and passengers gather nearby to assess the situation.
One onlooker said: 'I was confused at first because I heard screaming. Then, when I looked, I saw the employee on the ground. Luckily, someone trained in first aid was there to perform CPR immediately.'
The ILHBS member of staff regained consciousness within a few minutes and was taken to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar by an AAI ambulance for further medical care.
The CISF said in a statement: 'CISF personnel at ASG Bhubaneswar displayed exceptional alertness and professionalism by promptly administering CPR to an ILHBS staff member who collapsed at the Out-of-Gauge (OOG) Screening Point.
'Constable Dimple Kumar acted swiftly, assisted by Head Constable D. P. Gupta, helping to save a precious life.
'Their courageous act was highly praised by a doctor at the scene, who commended the CISF's professionalism and emergency response.'
The patient is reported to be in stable condition.
CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain blood flow and oxygen to the brain and vital organs when a person's heart stops, or they stop breathing.
