Storm tears roof tiles from airport in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment a storm ripped roof tiles from an airport in Indonesia.
Footage shows a tornado-like vortex sweeping across the ground and tearing apart sections of a structure at Juanda International Airport in East Java on January 8 at around 2:30 pm.
Parked vehicles along its path were damaged, while dozens of trees lining the access road were uprooted.
The severe weather brought traffic to a standstill for more than an hour as debris blocked the road leading to Terminal 1.
Gatot Soebroto, Head of the East Java Disaster Management Agency, said: 'These strong winds knocked down many trees along the access road to Terminal 1.
'Vehicles were crushed and the road became impassable for a while. Our team moved quickly to carry out evacuations and clean-up operations.'
Rescuers, together with airport authorities, and other local agencies, helped clear fallen tree trunks, branches, and debris scattered across the road.
No one was hurt but operations and flights schedules were affected.
Chief Gatot added: 'By around 4:10 pm, the access road was already back to normal, although airport activities had been disrupted earlier.'
Three flights were forced to divert their landings to Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang due to the bad weather.
Muhammad Tohir, General Manager of Juanda International Airport, later confirmed that all terminal facilities were now safe.
He said: 'For safety reasons, three flights were diverted to Semarang. At present, the airport area has been cleared and operations have returned to normal.'
