This is the dramatic moment a strong gust of wind ripped balloons from a vendor's hands in China.

The seller and several bystanders struggled to hold down dozens of inflatables amid powerful winds in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

Footage shows five women desperately dragging the colourful balloons toward a building in an attempt to stop them from blowing away.

However, despite clutching the strings with both hands, the balloons broke free and scattered into the sky.

The vendor appeared visibly upset stood still as the balloons floated into the darkening sky, while others walked away to seek shelter.

No injuries were reported following the disaster.
