Police officer saves kayaker stranded in river in Michigan
This is the heroic moment a police officer rescued a stranded kayaker from a river in Michigan.
Officer Nikolas Bruno responded to an emergency call at the Clinton River in Riverland Park, Sterling Heights, on May 10.
A female kayaker had become stuck, clinging to a downed tree in the river. She was not wearing a life jacket and appeared visibly panicked.
Bodycam footage shows Officer Nikolas hurrying to the scene around 2:30 pm, quickly removing his duty gear before jumping into the river. He navigated across a dam of logs to reach the distressed woman.
A nearby Good Samaritan provided a life jacket, which Officer Nikolas helped secure on the kayaker before safely swimming her back to shore.
The woman's daughter, who had also lost her kayak, was found safe on the log dam and later rescued by the Sterling Heights Fire Department.
The rescued mum said that she, her daughter, and her niece were kayaking for the first time when her kayak capsized after striking a downed tree. She hit her head and was barely holding on when Officer Nikolas reached her.
The Sterling Heights Police Department commended Officer Nikolas for his bravery.
The department said: 'His heroic actions reflect the highest standards of duty and commitment to the community.'
