Wind turbine stuck under bridge after truck misses turn
A huge wind turbine became wedged beneath a bridge after the truck driver missed a turn.
Shocking video shows a truck carrying a wind turbine struck under Mt Crosby Road overpass on the Warrego Highway in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, on Friday (May 16).
According to Queensland police, the preliminary investigation indicates that the truck failed to follow the pilot and escorting vehicles onto the Mount Crosby Road offramp.
Instead it continued westbound on the Warrego Highway and struck the bridge.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said: " Structural engineers have assessed the bridge to ensure it will remain stable during removal works. "
"The turbine is currently acting as a prop and must be removed with extreme care."
"Between three to five heavy tow trucks may be used to attempt removal of the wedged load."
"Survey equipment is in place to monitor any bridge movement. Works will be paused immediately if structural deflection is detected."
Ryan Whittaker, 30, was travelling to Brisbane when he captured the video.
He said: "I was in shock. "
"This over pass is so important for the locals of Karalee and Mt Crosby. "
"The bridge could be shut down for a few weeks."
