VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS HOLDING PALESTINIAN FLAGS, ITEMS SYMBOLIZING PALESTINIAN FREEDOM, BANNERS, SHOUTING SLOGANS, GIVING SPEECHES, MARCHINGAMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 17: On Saturday, May 17, hundreds gathered in the streets of Amsterdam to protest Israeli attacks on Gaza and mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, or “Great Catastrophe,” referring to the mass displacement of Palestinians following Israel’s founding in 1948. The event was organized by the Palestinian community in the Netherlands and featured speeches by speakers from different countries, including Palestinians. Chants condemning Israeli policies were heard during the demonstration, which was held under tight police presence. At least three individuals were detained by authorities. In 1948, more than 700,000 Palestinians were displaced from their towns and villages. The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
