HOUTHI MILITARY SPOKESMAN YAHYA SAREE SPEAKING IN ARABIC SANAA, YEMEN - MAY 18: Yemen’s Houthi group claimed that they targeted Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Sunday (May 18) twice in 24 hours. Houthis Military Spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised message that two ballistic missiles and an drones attacked the airport in response to Israeli airstrikes on the ports of Hodeidah and As-Salif in the west of the country on May 16. Flights stopped at the airport for about an hour and thousands of Israelis ran to shelters, Saree noted. According to the statement made by the Israeli army, a missile and a drone launched from Yemen were intercepted. Yediot Aharonot newspaper reported that sirens sounded in many cities, including Tel Aviv, and millions fled to shelters. Israel's emergency service, the Red Star of David, reported that one person was injured in Bat Yam while fleeing to shelters. In recent weeks, the Houthi group has stepped up missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets in response to the Israeli onslaught against the Gaza Strip that has left more than 53,200 dead. US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement with the Houthis on May 6, brokered by Oman -- a move Israeli officials reportedly described as “surprising.” Israel has since then carried out several airstrikes targeting vital facilities in Yemen, including the Sanaa airport.
