A pet giant African tortoise braved a roaring rainstorm, calmly staying put in the yard.

Footage shows the four-year-old sulcata named Kiro calmly resting in his shell amid the bad weather in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Kiro stayed beside the fence while freak winds battered the property, bending trees and shaking shrubs.

The downpour flooded parts of the property but Kiro roamed around, appearing to enjoy the water.

Kiro then crawled to the front steps of the house to eat leafy vegetables before resting in his cage on May 10.

Pet owner Utsanee Mayoe said: 'Kiro likes to play in the rain. The big raindrops might have felt like a massage on his back.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
