VARIOUS OF OVERFLOWING RIVERS, FLOODED STREETS, AND ONGOING RESPONSE EFFORTS BY CIVIL PROTECTION TEAMSMILAN, ITALY - MAY 22, 2025: Torrential rainfall in Italy’s Lombardy region, on Thursday, May 22, caused flooding and major disruptions in Milan, particularly in the eastern district of Ponte Lambro. The Seveso and Lambro rivers, which run through the city, rose significantly due to the downpour, prompting concerns over potential overflows. In Ponte Lambro, water gushed from manholes, flooding streets and residential areas. Municipal and Civil Protection teams were deployed to the affected zones, setting up mobile water barriers to mitigate the flooding. Several underpasses were submerged, forcing the redirection of both vehicular traffic and public transportation. Authorities closely monitored the Seveso River. As a precautionary measure, lamination tanks were opened to control the increased water flow and prevent further damage. Reporting by Michele Luigi Edoardo Novaga // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
