Phoenix, United States - May 22, 2025 05/21/2025 09:58 pm GMT-0700 MESA, Ariz. – Mesa Police Department Press Release: Good morning, On 05/21/2025 just before 10:00 pm Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located at 1439 S Val Vista Dr, Mesa AZ. Officers located one victim who sustained non life threatening gun shot wounds and located another victim who unfortunately died from gun shot wounds. Police have detained multiple suspects at multiple locations and at this time we believe this is an isolated incident. The information that we have at this time is preliminary and the investigation is still ongoing. Further information will be provided once it is available. -- According to preliminary information, Mesa Police located a red Nissan Altima matching the description of the car involved in the shooting at approximately Val Vista Drive and the US-60. The Mesa Police helicopter 'Falcon' quickly arrived overhead and observed as officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the car. The suspect fled from officers, and a tactical surveillance operation was initiated. The Mesa Police helicopter began tracking the suspect from above while ground units followed at a safe distance. Officers tracked the suspect as they drove to a residential neighborhood in the area of Litchfield Road and Camelback Road Phoenix Police, Mesa Police, and DPS arrived at the location and established a perimeter after at least one occupant fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers were seen surrounding a house in the area with guns drawn. Eventually, members from the Phoenix Police's Special Assignments Unit and Mesa Police's SWAT arrived on scene with resources, including armoured vehicles.
