This is the dramatic moment a huge fire tore across a family's garden - and spread towards their home while they were sleeping.

The blaze broke out in Gravesend, Kent in the early hours of Tuesday (May 20) morning after embers from a fire pit used the previous night reignited.

A wooden sleeper was set alight - and flames quickly swept across the family's garage and onto the garden fence they shared with their neighbours.

Mum Kimberley Brampton-Green, 42, was the first to notice the fire.

She said: "I was woken by something and went to check on the children — George, who is 13 and has special needs, and Daisy-Gray, who's just turned three. "

"They were sound asleep, so I looked out of their window, and saw a huge fireball." "

By this point, the blaze had engulfed two fence panels and a stack of wood - and was quickly spreading to the neighbour's shed and outhouse.

Kimberley woke her partner, Miles Minall, who rushed outside - without any clothes on.

The mum-of-three said: "Miles went into full hero mode — still butt naked — and grabbed the garden hose to start tackling the fire. "

"I called the fire brigade and used an extinguisher to help keep it under control until they arrived."

"The kids slept through the whole thing!"

Neighbours also joined the effort, using their own hose from the other side of the fence.

Firefighters arrived soon after and quickly brought the blaze under control.

"Miles only got dressed when the fire crews arrived, which probably gave the neighbours a bit more than they bargained for," Kimberley joked."

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire - but the family's fence and parts of the neighbour's garden buildings were damaged.

Kimberley, who has praised the firefighters who helped them, wanted to share her family's store to raise awareness about how easily fire pit embers can reignite.

She said: "We never thought we'd wake up to that. "

"We just want to make others aware — those little embers can do more than you'd ever expect." "
