Heartbreaking moment sisters say goodbye for the last time after cancer diagnosis
A touching video captured the moment a woman said a final goodbye to her sisters after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Mary Phung Nguyen, 86, moved from Vietnam to South Carolina in 1985 in search of a better life, leaving behind her twin sister Cũng Nguyện and her older sister Chuc Nguyễn, 94.
In March 2023, Mary was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and her family didn't know how much time she had left.
So, they planned for the entire family to travel to Vietnam, giving Mary the chance to reunite with her sisters one last time.
Mary's granddaughter Mina Nguyen, 30, a registered nurse in Seattle, Washington, said: "The experience was a mix of overwhelming happiness but also sadness at the same time. "
"Knowing the inevitable is near and all sisters just accepting the situation and embracing the last moments they have together."
"It was very moving."
Mary hadn't seen her sisters in over 20 years by the time she visited them in 2023 and it was very important to her to make the trip.
Mary has since turned to holistic herbal remedies and continues to survive over the past two years but remains too unwell to travel.
Mina said: "Mary is still alive and well. "
"She's been taking a lot of herbal medicine and supplements, which has miraculously and significantly decreased her cancer cells. "
"Both are sisters are still alive but she's a bit too fragile to be travelling far and frequently."
