A dog tick, also known as wood tick, waits for a passing animal as it clings to a fern along a game trail near the Umpqua River in rural southwestern Oregon. Dozens of ticks were climbing on ferns in a small area along the trail. Ticks thrive in humid, moist environments. The area had an extremely rainy late winter and early spring which may have contributed to the tick population boom. Video Credit © Robin Loznak/ZUMA Press
