Doctors removed ticks from a boy's ears in Thailand.

The youngster, Nawa Pattarachai, was taken to the Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital in Chiang Mai province when his father discovered the insects skittering in the boy's right ear canal on May 12.

The doctor administered anti-tick eardrops to incapacitate the parasites before referring the family to a specialist.

Footage shows the medical practitioner using a pair of surgical forceps to pick out the ticks from Nawa's ear one by one as the scared child did his best to behave.

The doctor extracted two ticks from Nawa's right ear. Another was found deep in his left ear and could not be removed as it was too close to his eardrum.

Instead, Nawa was prescribed more drops to kill the tick and any eggs it may have laid.

The family believe the ticks may have come from their pet dog - a Thai mixed breed adopted from the streets when it was just a puppy.

Nawa's mum said: 'My son loves animals, especially dogs. He often plays with our pet after school and cuddles with it.

'During the treatment, Nawa did not cry at all even though he felt some pain. He was communicative throughout the process like his father told him to be. I am proud of him.'

Nawa's father said he found the ticks after the boy complained of persistent itching in his ear. When he used a flashlight to find what was wrong, he discovered one of the insects moving inside.

He added: 'I always scold Nawa and tell him not to get fur on his clothes. I never thought ticks would enter his ears.'

Following the ordeal, Nawa has been more careful in playing with the dog, his family said.

They added that his hearing was unaffected, and he is scheduled for a follow-up check-up this week.
