As part of the official ceremonies in the capital Rome, the Italian Air Force’s aerobatic team, Frecce Tricolori, performed a low-altitude flyover above the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, leaving behind trails of green, white, and red the colors of the Italian flag across the skies of the Eternal City. Republic Day commemorates the 1946 referendum in which Italians voted to abolish the monarchy and establish a republic following the fall of Fascism and the end of World War II.
