On the night of May 31st in Fuyang, Anhui, a young boy stood firm in the wind and rain, operating a lift for his parents as they performed acrobatics high above. Despite being soaked and shivering from the cold, he remained focused on ensuring their safety.

At one point, another child, seeing it was raining, tried to shield him with a cardboard box. But the boy quickly removed it, fearing it might block his view of the performers.

The boy’s father, Mr. Xie, explained that he and his wife make a living performing acrobatics. Their son, who is 6 years old and still in kindergarten, often finishes school early with no one to look after him—so they bring him along to shows.

Mr. Xie said his son is smart and quickly learned how to operate the lift after being shown just once or twice. “I trust him completely,” he said. “When my wife and I are performing, he's totally focused—even if someone talks to him, he ignores them.”

Mr. Xie added that it was very cold during the performance, and seeing his child trembling from the cold while still determined to control the lift made him feel both heartache and pride.
